This article explores the theme of ‘transition’ by tracing how collaborative robot technologies are transforming (and transformed by) DIY cultures, and how makerspaces are reconfigured vis-a-vis these encounters. The authors’ analysis of the dynamics of human-machine relations in makerspaces as ‘trading zones’ is a novel contribution to the STS canon.
